The Vegetable Garden
Mr and Mrs L
Wakes Colne, Essex
A couple with two young children and a large garden wanted an area for growing vegetables.
The Brief
The clients wanted a self-contained vegetable area since there was plenty of space within their large, country garden. The area needed to be fenced off to prevent attack by rabbits and their new puppy!
The Garden
The garden was rectangular 12m x 6m with four raised beds in the middle, internal gravel pathways 0.75m wide and further raised beds around three sides. The middle two beds included a simple willow tunnel for growing runner beans and sweet peas. The garden was surrounded by 1.2m high picket fencing and a triple, wooden compost bin was installed next to it. Since the clients had no experience of growing vegetables, a suggested layout was given.
